Here at Cerebral Palsy Midlands (CPM), our history group has been working to preserve and celebrate the organisation's rich heritage. So far in our weekly meetings we have been meticulously sorting and cataloguing documents, some dating as far back as 1853.

At the moment, we are working towards two main goals, both of which we aim to complete in time for Cerebral Palsy Midlands’ 80th anniversary in 2027. Firstly, we would like to create a visual timeline that highlights the major milestones and achievements of CPM since its opening in 1947. This timeline will serve as an educational tool, illustrating the evolution of services and support for individuals with cerebral palsy in the West Midlands.
Help us narate the history of Cerebral Palsy Midlands!
Our second goal is to author a book that narrates the history of CPM in an engaging and accessible manner. By compiling personal anecdotes, historical records, and photographs, we aim to produce a publication that resonates with a broad audience, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs experienced by the cerebral palsy community.

We invite community members, historians, and anyone interested in disability history to join us in this endeavour. Your participation can help ensure that the legacy of Cerebral Palsy Midlands is preserved for future generations. Together, we can honour the past and inspire future progress in supporting individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

As a historian with a deep passion for both disability and local history, I am thoroughly enjoying my involvement with the CPM History Group. Participating in our weekly meetings, where we uncover its rich history, has been both enlightening and rewarding, I feel privileged to contribute to this project, as it not only enriches my understanding of the organization’s profound impact but also allows me to help preserve its legacy for future generations.
