Join our CPM Running Team this year and get involved in the Birmingham 10k or half marathon running in Birmingham City Centre for the A J Bell Birmingham Great Run on Sunday 5th May 2024.
All the money we raise will help Jack get the Mollii suit he needs to lead a independent and stronger life.
Jack and his mom Heidi have been friends and supporters of our charity, CPM, since finding out about us in 2020.
In 2023 Jack along with some friends at his college, National Star College, Jack trialled a Mollii suit and hit our TV screens on BBC’s “The One Show”.
What's a Molli Suit?
The Mollii suit is a soft jacket and trousers, with 58 electrodes placed over major muscle groups. Essentially the Mollii suit aims to reduce muscle stiffness and undesired reflexes, it stimulates peripheral sensory feedback via antagonists to selected muscle groups, helping to relieve overactive muscle tension and activate underactive muscles. The suit's stimulation is personalised for the wearer through a small control box on the waist.
Wearing the suit every other day for an hour is enough to get relief that can last up to 48 hours. This makes it easier for the wearer to live more comfortably for the next two days.
How will it help?
Jack's suit provided numerous benefits. It improved his core movements, posture, gait, and communication. He no longer slouched in his wheelchair or felt tired and experienced less pain. The suit also enhanced his swimming and dancing abilities, as well as his eating capabilities. With the suit's arm improvement, he might no longer require BOTOX injections. Jack referred to it as his own spider suit.
The cost of the Mollie suit is £6000. The family have tried many ways of fundraising and still needs over £5000 to make Jack's dream of having his own Mollii (Spider) suit a reality.
Getting ready to run!
Jack and his family have acquired a sports pushchair so that Jack can be pushed round the 10k route in Birmingham. You can follow their videos, updates of their training non our Facebook Event page.
